When Red Is Blue is
really a fictionalized account of
events that occurred during Sabrynne McLain’s childhood and early
twenties. It paints a vivid picture in the emotional trauma and self-esteem issues faced by kids of dysfunctional parents, while leading people through a journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance. This novel is
different in that it offers an in-depth depiction of mental illness and alcoholism coming
from a family member’s perspective.
